SKE Course Day 4

Day four allowed us time to complete any remaining electronics work from the previous session. This gave us the opportunity to put into practice skills such as soldering, using multimeters, and for some of us, a chance to help others and practice our teaching skills in a mini format.

The above video shows my dark sensing circuit in use. As it was a bright day, I used my scarf to cover the sensor.

We then moved onto making a simple bag in Textiles. Using a pre made template (something which would come in handy for KS3 classes). The fabric used was unusual. It was very thin but was easy to cut and machine, making it ideal for classes who are being introduced to textiles for the first time. This bag is a nice easy introduction to textiles, and can be adapted using different fabrics and finishes.

Finally, we began looking at our IKEA chairs in more detail. We assembled the chair, and took as many measurements as we could. These measurements will be applied in a few weeks time when the chairs will be drawn onto CAD.

On my lunch break today I popped into the Degree Show at the university and had a look at some of the product design projects to get some ideas on projects, skills and ideas generation.
