SKE Day Two

Our second day began with an introduction to Systems and Control.

We started with the basics, and learnt how to make up a simple circuit board using 2 x AA batteries, a red LED, a 330 Ohm resistor and a single pole single throw switch. We created the circuit using crocodile clips and worked in pairs.

We then experimented with different LED's, varying LED structuring (such as placing them in parallel) and new switches. This was a great introductory session as it allowed those with little experience with systems and control or electronics to really get to grips with the basics, and allowed those with more experience to refresh their memories.

We then moved on to understanding the Ohm's Law calculation, and how it can be applied to electronics or systems when taught. This lead on to learning about how to calculate the value of a resistor needed for varying circuits and needs.

I have GCSE's in both Electronics and Systems and Control, and am comfortable with the subject, but this was a great session to have a play with circuits and experiment, and to also test my existing knowledge.
